Purpose:

The Elementary School Counselor helps students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment. In order to coordinate comprehensive counseling program, the

Elementary Counselor must work closely with the other staff and administration of U.S.D. #321

 

Essential Functions:

1. Help students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment.
2. Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students.
3. Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
4. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
5. Work effectively with community organizations.
6. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
7. Support the value of education.

General Responsibilities:

• Line of Authority:  Counselors shall be directly responsible to the building principal.
• Assignment of Students to Classes:  The counselor shall provide feedback to the principal in the assignment of pupils to classes.
• Personal Counseling:  The guidance counselor shall be available for counseling with students.  The counselor should seek conferences as needed by students where problems exist or could arise.
• Consult with parents, teacher, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students
• Testing Program:  The guidance counselor shall organize and administer the the Kansas Community that Cares survey. Will also assist in the development of the state testing schedule.
• Reports and Records:  The counselor shall maintain up-to-date cumulative folders for each student  and submit reports as needed or requested by the specific building principals, and/or superintendent.
• Assist with Preschool screening as needed and new student enrollment
• Attend and assist when necessary with school events such as musical programs, student recognition ceremonies, graduation, and open house.
• Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
• Character Education Class that supports the overall learning and mission of Kaw Valley U.S.D. 321
• Other duties as assigned by the Principal, or other Administrative Staff.
