Custodian
Purpose:
To provide students and staff with a safe, attractive and clean place in which to learn and work.
Responsible To:
Maintenance Director, Maintenance Assistant Director
Salary:
$10.67 per hour
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated aptitude or competence for responsibilities outlined below.
- High school diploma or equivalent is desired.
- Valid Kansas driver’s license desired.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Maintenance Director and Assistant Director may find appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Functions:
- Knowledge, Skill and Abilities
- Keep buildings and premises neat and clean.
- Monitor building temperature to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage.
- Clear snow from walkways and steps during inclement weather.
- Ensures that all exterior doors are open during building hours and locked after hours.
- Clean classrooms, dust furniture, sweep, mop, and vacuum corridors.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms and drinking fountains.
- Comply with all district rules, policies and regulations.
- Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires the ability to stand and walk on level surfaces, as well as climb up and down stairs for prolonged periods.
- Requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, push or pull heavy objects or materials.
- Requires the ability to stoop, bend and reach.
- Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Must be able to work in and around chemical odors.
- Must be able to maintain appropriate levels of personal hygiene and sanitation.
- Must be able to follow district guidelines regarding dress code.
- Must be able to work with cleaning chemicals, solvents and disinfectants.
- Requires the full range of motion with neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, back, torso, knees and ankles.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds repeatedly.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally.
- Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
General Responsibilities:
- Maintain the cleanliness of building and premises.
- Make sure the building is secure after hours.
- Report maintenance concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain proper sanitary practices.
- Report any unsafe practices to the appropriate supervisor.
- Move furniture or equipment within the building premises as required for various activities and as directed by the custodial supervisor or head custodian.
- Perform yard keeping chores such as grass cutting, trimming shrubs, and maintaining the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
- Keep floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
- Clean whiteboards, perform minor building repairs, report needed maintenance to head custodian.
- Remain on school premises during duty hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and the custodial supervisor requires his/her attendance.
- Assume responsibility for opening and closing the building each school day and for determining that all doors and windows are locked and lights (other than for security) are turned off.
- Keep enough chemicals and supplies on hand to perform daily duties.
- Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance.
- Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Other duties assigned by the custodial supervisor, Maintenance Director, Maintenance Assistant Director that are consistent with the general requirements of the position.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Nonprofessional Personnel. |
